The app enables users to save content directly from their iPhone's share sheet, supporting screenshots, links, posts, photos, and places. Tote uses AI to extract and add context to saved items, generating searchable titles, summaries, source links, and additional details. This allows users to later find their saved content by topic or keyword. Screenshots are processed to pull out relevant information, such as ingredients from a recipe or details about a place, making them more useful and organized than simply storing them in the camera roll.

Organization within Tote is facilitated through customizable lists. Users can build lists for various purposes, including trips, shopping, watch lists, and plans, grouping related content together. The app also offers features to preview list contents, share lists with friends, and map saved places.
