TabStay

TabStay is a browser extension designed to simplify tab management and reduce tab clutter for users of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. The tool addresses the common issue of excessive open tabs by offering intelligent page stashing and a floating search panel, aiming to make browsing more efficient while conserving memory.

The extension provides a floating search button in the bottom-right corner of every page, which users can drag and whose position is auto-saved for each domain. Expanding this panel allows quick access to multi-engine search and browsing history. TabStay supports over ten search engines by default, including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Baidu, and also lets users add custom search engines to suit their preferences.

TabStay automatically saves the current page before a search is performed, storing all history locally to prioritize privacy. The number of history items can be configured between one and fifty. Pages can be restored in the current tab with a single click, and restored items are automatically removed from history. Keyboard shortcuts (Alt+1/2/3) enable quick page restoration, and additional shortcuts allow toggling the panel, supporting a personalized workflow.

The extension intercepts standard link clicks to open pages in the current tab, helping to prevent unnecessary tab proliferation, while still preserving the familiar Ctrl/Cmd+Click behavior for opening links in new tabs. Users can customize the default search engine, history count, and interface language, tailoring the experience to their needs. TabStay is lightweight, open source, and completely free to use, with no ads and no performance impact. All data is stored locally for security, and users may install it directly from the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, or Firefox Add-ons, or build from source if preferred.
