Whisnap is voice typing software for macOS that inserts transcribed text directly at the cursor in any application. Users press a customizable hotkey, speak, and the words appear without switching windows, copying, or pasting. It provides both free local transcription that runs entirely offline and an optional paid cloud mode for additional capabilities.

The tool supports system-wide voice typing across all macOS apps where a text cursor can be placed. It includes batch audio and video transcription by drag and drop, with automatic audio track extraction from video files in formats such as WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A, OGG, MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. Local Core mode offers on-device processing using multiple model sizes that users can select for speed or accuracy, custom hotkeys, and full privacy since no audio leaves the device. Cloud Mode adds server-side processing for enhanced accuracy, context-aware AI formatting, smart snippets, custom vocabulary, and a command mode that lets users select text, speak instructions such as "make this more professional" or "summarize this," and have the selection rewritten in place.

It runs natively on Apple Silicon chips including M1 through M4 as well as Intel-based Macs. A command-line interface is available for power users to transcribe files directly from the terminal. The software addresses needs for dictation in apps such as Slack, VS Code, Apple Notes, Mail, Terminal, Pages, Word, Safari, Chrome, Notion, and Linear.

Local Core is free forever with unlimited voice typing and batch transcription. Cloud Mode is available through a subscription at ten dollars per month after a seven-day free trial and includes all local features plus the cloud enhancements. The tool is delivered as a downloadable macOS application.
