SmoothCapture

SmoothCapture is a native macOS application designed for creating polished screen recordings and app demo videos. It targets users who need to quickly record, edit, and export videos from their Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iOS Simulator, making it particularly suitable for developers, product teams, and anyone creating release teasers or app previews.

The app offers a complete workflow within a single interface, allowing users to record from a Mac screen, window, selected area, a connected iPhone or iPad over USB, or directly from the iOS Simulator. It supports adding webcam, microphone, system audio, and keystroke overlays as needed. Editing features include trimming mistakes, splitting and reordering clips, combining multiple takes, and speeding up or slowing down sections to control pacing. smoothcapture file for easy management and auto-saving.

SmoothCapture provides tools to enhance clarity and presentation, such as smart and manual zooms, smooth cursor effects, keystroke displays, and annotations for marking up or hiding sensitive information. Users can add device frames in both 2D and 3D, with options for lighting and reflections, and customize backgrounds, canvas size, and padding. The app supports various aspect ratios for different distribution channels, including landscape, portrait, square, and App Store formats. Webcam layouts can be adjusted for overlay, fullscreen, or side-by-side presentations, with customizable shapes and positions.

Audio and narration features include mixing microphone and system audio, adding music, muting sources, and adjusting volume or speed. Captions can be generated using Apple Speech or FluidAudio, with a transcript editor for reviewing and editing subtitles before export. Export options are extensive: users can export videos as MP4, MOV, GIF, or transparent ProRes files, control resolution and frame rate up to 4K, and save locally, generate share links, or publish directly to Cloudflare R2 or AWS S3.

SmoothCapture is available for macOS 15 and above. It is offered as a one-time purchase, allowing users to try the editor for free and requiring a license key to unlock export and sharing features. There is no subscription required, and all recording and editing are performed locally on the user's Mac.
