AI Slop Detector for Text and Images

Slop or Not is an AI detection tool designed to identify AI-generated text and images, with a focus on privacy and on-device processing. It is available as an app for iPhone and Mac, running detection models locally on the Apple Neural Engine. The tool enables users to analyze writing and photos without uploads, word limits, or tracking, ensuring that content remains private and checks are performed directly on the device.

The platform supports detection of outputs from AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, DALL-E, and Midjourney. Users can paste English text or select a photo for analysis, receiving a verdict and confidence score within seconds. For educators and others dealing with lengthy documents, the AI text detector imposes no word cap, allowing entire essays to be checked in a single operation. The tool also provides readability scores for text in seven languages, using established metrics like Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, and others specific to German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian. These scores are calculated on-device and do not estimate AI authorship.

For image analysis, Slop or Not flags both watermarks and subtle facial artifacts that may indicate AI generation. Online photo checks are processed on the tool's own fleet of Macs, and photos are deleted after processing, with no data sent to third parties. The tool includes detectors for various watermark and metadata standards, such as SynthID, C2PA content credentials, and IPTC metadata, as well as a deepfake photo detector.

In addition to the main app, Slop or Not offers a command-line interface (CLI) and MCP server for Mac, which can be used in conjunction with AI tools like Claude, Codex, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, and Cursor. These advanced features allow for AI text detection, readability checks, image detection, and cleaning of hidden characters, with results available for integration into other workflows. The CLI and MCP server are available as Pro features. The app can be downloaded free from the App Store, requires no account or login, and does not require an internet connection for on-device checks.
