Shrugs

Shrugs is a native macOS application designed to integrate Slack communication with features and workflows familiar to macOS users. The tool allows users to open multiple main windows, enabling simultaneous conversations and multitasking beyond the limitations of a single-window interface. Threads within Slack can be viewed in popovers or detached into separate windows, making it easier to manage ongoing discussions alongside channel activity.

The application incorporates macOS Action extensions, allowing users to markup images and documents within the compose panel before sharing them in Slack. This includes using the standard markup extension found in Apple's Mail app, as well as compatible third-party extensions such as Pixelmator's repair tool. Shrugs also leverages Apple's Continuity feature, enabling users to draw sketches on an iPad or scan documents and take photos with an iPhone, then send the results directly into a Slack conversation.

Additional features include integration with macOS "Look Up" via pasteboard support. Users can select items such as flight numbers, addresses, or movie titles in messages and use a trackpad deep press or context menu to access relevant information, such as flight details, without leaving the app. Navigation and message response are further streamlined through trackpad or Magic Mouse gestures, allowing users to quickly create threads or add reactions by swiping left or right on messages.
