Contextify

Contextify addresses the challenge of limited and temporary history in Claude Code and Codex by providing a private, searchable timeline of all sessions with these AI coding tools. Unlike the default 30-day deletion policy of Claude Code, Contextify preserves session history indefinitely, allowing users to revisit and search past conversations for commands, fixes, or solutions that might otherwise be lost.

The tool functions as an ambient flow monitor, capturing Claude Code and Codex sessions in real time. It summarizes each message, enabling users to quickly review what occurred during their interactions or follow along as their AI assistant works. Full-text search capabilities allow users to locate specific information across their entire conversation history within seconds.

On macOS, Contextify offers advanced features powered by Apple Intelligence. For users running macOS 26 (Tahoe), it generates local LLM-based summaries of sessions without requiring API keys or cloud processing, ensuring that summaries remain on the user's device. For those on macOS 15 (Sequoia), a Lite Mode is available that provides timeline and search functionality without summaries. The application is available for both macOS and Linux platforms.

Contextify is designed with a local-first approach, operating entirely on the user's machine without requiring an account. Users have the option to enable cloud sync to search history across multiple devices and keep backups, or to deploy a personal self-hosted instance on their own infrastructure. Syncing is fully user-controlled and can be disabled at any time. The tool is available for download for both Mac and Linux systems, supporting developers who rely on Claude Code and Codex for their AI-assisted coding workflows.
