Kero

kero.sh·CLI tools & terminal

Kero is a native terminal workspace for macOS that integrates projects, sessions, files, and Git capabilities into a single window around the user's existing shell. It addresses the need for a unified environment where developers can manage terminal-based work without switching between separate applications for code navigation, version control, and session persistence.

The application organizes work around projects rather than windows, with each repository appearing in a sidebar that supports quick switching via Cmd+1 through Cmd+9 and addition of new projects with Cmd+N. Within a project, users open multiple terminal tabs using Cmd+T, each maintaining its own directory and scrollback history. Split panes are available through Cmd+D for right splits, Cmd+Shift+D for downward splits, and Option+Cmd+arrow keys to shift focus between them. On relaunch, Kero restores projects, tabs, pane layouts, and prior scrollback while starting fresh shell instances underneath.

A command palette activated by Cmd+P enables jumping to any project or session and running commands. The built-in Git panel allows staging, unstaging, discarding, committing with amend support, switching or creating branches, fetching, fast-forward pulls, pushing, publishing new upstream branches, and stashing changes. Inline diffs appear when clicking a changed file, displayed directly in the window. Additional panels provide a file browser with tree-sitter syntax highlighting and save support via Cmd+S, plus session information listing running processes and the TCP ports they listen on.

The terminal component runs the user's existing shell such as zsh or fish without modification. Kero is delivered as a native macOS application requiring version 15.6 or later, distributed as a signed and notarized DMG file. It is free and open-source software with no telemetry or subscriptions.
