Scribbble

Scribbble is a screen annotation application designed specifically for macOS, enabling users to draw, highlight, and annotate directly over any content displayed on their Mac. It operates at the operating system level, allowing annotations to appear on top of any app, including slides, browsers, design tools, video calls, and screen recordings. The tool is activated and cleared using a hotkey, providing a workflow that is streamlined and focused for live presentations or demonstrations.

The application features a variety of annotation tools, such as a pen, highlighter, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, text, a spotlight (focus dim) tool, a measure tool, and a built-in snapshot function that can capture the entire screen or a selected region. Scribbble’s toolbar can be set to float or dock to the left or right edge of the screen, and it supports macOS-style keyboard shortcuts. Its native design ensures compatibility and performance on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 11 or later.

Scribbble is intended for a broad range of users, including teachers, streamers, YouTubers, designers, and sales teams. Its annotations are compatible with screen sharing and recording platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, OBS, Loom, and QuickTime, with no need for plugins or additional setup. The app is available as a free download with a trial period, after which a one-time license fee unlocks all features. There is no subscription required, no login process, and users receive free updates for life.
