Powertracker is a live, public map-based analytics platform that visualizes the landscape of AI and hyperscaler data centers across the United States, contextualized with a wide array of public data overlays. It tracks 144 data center sites in 36 states, including operational, under-construction, fully announced, and proposed locations, with detailed classifications such as AI focus and status regarding local government approval. The platform highlights major operators and quantifies publicly disclosed power loads, offering insights into both current and prospective infrastructure.

The tool overlays data center locations with multiple contextual layers, including electricity balancing-authority demand, county-level per-capita GDP, utility residential electricity rates, median property tax, and real estate closing prices. Users can also view information on power infrastructure, such as EIA power plants (≥100 MW), OpenStreetMap high-voltage substations (≥69 kV), and EIA electric power transmission lines (≥138 kV). Additional overlays incorporate political data (2024 presidential county margin), social and policy indicators (recent ICE raid and protest reports), public health metrics (CDC opioid and homicide Z-score upticks), and climate data (NOAA temperature anomalies and storm-driven outage upticks). All overlays present year-over-year percentage changes, comparing the latest twelve months to a three-year baseline.

S. S. Census, NOAA, CDC, OpenStreetMap, Redfin, and curated public coverage of hyperscaler campuses. These feeds are refreshed on a tracked cadence, with a full registry of sources and update schedules available on the platform. The platform also provides prerendered county rankings by absorbed data center load, linked to utility rates, home prices, and property tax changes, as well as a curated schedule of upcoming regulatory decisions relevant to proposed sites.

Technically, powertracker is built as a static MapLibre and PMTiles application, hosted on a Cloudflare Worker to support efficient map tile streaming. Its codebase and data pipelines, including fetchers, vector-tile builds, and scheduled refresh workflows, are open source and accessible on GitHub. The tool is designed for infrastructure planners, analysts, researchers, and others interested in the intersection of AI infrastructure and regional economic, environmental, and policy factors.
