MockHop

MockHop is a native macOS application designed for capturing and annotating web pages. It features a built-in browser, allowing users to navigate to any site and capture either the entire tab or a specific window without relying on browser extensions or additional apps. The tool addresses the need for streamlined web page documentation, making it suitable for tasks such as design reviews, bug reporting, or sharing annotated screenshots in collaborative environments.

Among its core capabilities, MockHop enables users to mark up captured web content with arrows, rectangles, highlights, and text callouts. The annotation interface supports drag-and-resize actions, snapping, and offers a toolbar designed to stay unobtrusive. Users can export high-resolution PNG images of their work using a keyboard shortcut, facilitating easy sharing via channels like Slack or inclusion in reports. The application also provides a menu-bar item and a configurable global shortcut for initiating marquee screenshots from any app, which then open in a floating window equipped with the full annotation toolset. This window allows for copying, saving, sharing, or sending the annotated image to a new MockHop document.

MockHop supports capturing web pages at various viewport sizes—such as widescreen, laptop, tablet, and mobile—in a single operation, and users can choose to capture the entire scrollable page or just the visible portion. The built-in browser supports tabbed browsing, enabling users to open multiple URLs and switch between them for capture. Additional annotation features include color-coded review cards for critical, warning, or approval notes, pre-styled and auto-numbered, with leader arrows for precise referencing. Specialized callouts and prohibition marks (such as X, circled X, or no-symbol) are available for flagging elements. A floating crop tool allows non-destructive trimming of images, with the option to re-crop or restore the full image at any time.

Integration with other browsers is supported by letting users pull the front-tab URL directly from Safari, Chrome, or Arc, and by enabling direct window capture from browsers like Safari or Chrome. The application operates on macOS 15 Sequoia or later and is optimized for Apple Silicon. MockHop is available as a lightweight download with no tracking, account requirement, or subscription, and can be obtained through the Mac App Store or as a free trial.
