MediaWiki MCP Server

MediaWiki MCP Server is an open-source server that implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable AI applications and large language model (LLM) chatbots to interact directly with MediaWiki wikis. The server offers a broad set of actions for working with MediaWiki. It supports reading and searching for pages, files, revisions, and history, including search by title or full text, previewing wikitext, and comparing revisions. Users can create new pages, edit or append to sections, upload files, and delete or restore content. Navigation features include following links between pages, browsing category members, and tracking recent changes. The tool also allows connection to multiple wikis simultaneously, including pulling content from Wikipedia and marking wikis as read-only or setting a default.

For structured data, MediaWiki MCP Server integrates with extensions such as NeoWiki, Semantic MediaWiki, Bucket, and Cargo. Through these, AI tools can explore schemas, run Cypher queries, execute ask queries, and perform SQL-style or Lua queries, depending on the extension. This enables advanced querying and manipulation of structured data within the wiki environment. 0 authentication through a browser, which is required for editing and for accessing private wikis.

Deployment options include running the server locally alongside an AI tool or deploying it as a remote HTTP service for team-wide access. It is compatible with any MCP client and can be set up in various development environments such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, and Gemini CLI.
