Margin is a web-based platform designed for readers who want to track their daily reading habits, share progress, and connect with others in a social reading environment. The service centers on the concept of a reading streak, allowing users to mark each day they read with a single tap. This streak feature is complemented by a weekly-goal mode for those who prefer less pressure than daily tracking.

Each time a user finishes a book, Margin automatically generates a shareable finish card containing the book's cover, the user’s rating, the current streak day, and their handle. These cards can be easily shared to stories, and friends can click back to the book’s page on Margin. The platform also features an ambient feed that quietly displays what friends are reading in real time, intentionally omitting follower counts and algorithmic ranking to foster a more organic and less competitive environment.

Margin offers customizable public reading profiles, referred to as "shelves," where users can personalize their page with different palettes, fonts, wallpapers, card styles, and reorderable sections. Each user receives a unique URL for their shelf, which can be used as a bio link. The platform supports importing a user's entire Goodreads library—including shelves, ratings, reviews, and dates—via CSV file, and allows CSV export as well, ensuring users retain control over their data and are not locked in.

The service is available for free, with the promise that user archives remain accessible and that the core features do not require payment. Margin positions itself as a tool "for readers, by readers," emphasizing privacy and user ownership. It is delivered as a web application and does not mention any algorithmic feeds or follower metrics, focusing instead on authentic engagement around books and reading habits.
