LexCustody is a credential vault designed for legal firms to securely store, manage, and share access credentials for various portals such as judicial, tax, and social security sites. It replaces shared spreadsheets and manual methods with a centralized, encrypted solution tailored for law offices and their teams. The platform is part of the Lex Suite ecosystem and is developed in Montevideo.
The tool allows users to load credentials—usernames and passwords—once, associating them with specific clients or cases. Each credential is encrypted end-to-end using a hybrid encryption model: every credential is encrypted with its own key, which is then wrapped by the vault's master key. The master passphrase for the firm never leaves the user's device and is neither transmitted nor stored, ensuring that even the service provider cannot access the stored data. Access control is granular; each credential has an owner and can be explicitly shared with others as needed, while administrators maintain oversight and audit capabilities.
LexCustody is delivered as a browser extension, available for Chrome and Edge, with Firefox and Safari support planned. The extension enables users to search for credentials by client and either autofill login details directly into the active portal or copy them to the clipboard. All credential access events are recorded in an immutable, append-only audit log that cannot be altered, even if the database is compromised. The extension does not see or handle the user's password directly.
Access to LexCustody is provided to firms with an active LexCustody plan, and users log in using their LexSuite account, supporting email, Google, Microsoft, or Apple authentication with multi-factor authentication (MFA). The platform is specifically oriented toward law firms seeking secure, auditable credential management for sensitive data across multiple legal and administrative portals.
