Legion AI Connect

Legion AI Connect is a WordPress plugin designed to integrate AI chat functionality into WordPress sites, enabling visitor-funded usage with a configurable margin for site owners. The plugin allows website operators to offer AI chat experiences without requiring a site-wide AI provider key, shifting the cost of AI interactions to individual visitors. This approach lets users pay as they go for AI services while developers and site owners can add model access without incurring usage costs themselves.

The plugin supports integration through multiple methods, including a Gutenberg block, an Elementor widget, and a [legion_chat] shortcode. It offers display flexibility with fixed or inline modes and allows customization of the chat interface, such as greeting message, accent color, position, theme, per-widget context IDs, and inline pasted context for article-specific chats. Site owners must configure a Client ID obtained from the Legion Developer Dashboard to enable the plugin’s functionality.

Legion AI Connect depends on the external Legion AI service for critical operations, including visitor authorization, usage billing, AI request routing, usage calculation, and generating AI responses. The plugin does not function as an AI provider on its own and requires connectivity to Legion’s infrastructure. During use, visitor browsers may interact with Legion’s endpoints for authorization, token exchange, and chat requests. The plugin is built with privacy considerations: it does not store visitor chat transcripts or Legion tokens in the WordPress database, and sensitive data such as access and refresh tokens are kept in the visitor’s browser local storage, with temporary OAuth state and draft text stored in session storage.

Developers can access the plugin’s human-readable JavaScript SDK source code, license, and build configuration within the distributed ZIP file. 4 or later. js 20 or later is recommended for rebuilding the SDK bundle.
