heypi

heypi is a TypeScript framework designed for building multiplayer AI chat agents that operate within team chat platforms such as Slack, Discord, and Telegram. Unlike typical single-user AI assistants, heypi enables teams to share a single agent in group channels, providing features specifically tailored for collaborative environments, including approvals, audit trails, sandboxed tool access, and an admin panel for oversight.

The framework allows developers to scaffold a chat agent as a set of editable files, managed through a git-based workflow rather than a dashboard. ts file that manages chat platforms, runtime, and state. The agent can be connected to Slack, Discord, Telegram, or a trusted webhook, and custom adapters can be developed via integration APIs.

heypi offers a range of governance and operational features: sensitive actions can be gated behind human approvals with named approvers, and an audit trail records every interaction, tool call, approval, and result in a SQLite database. The agent can read and write files, execute commands, and search within a scoped workspace, running these commands in a default just-bash runtime or within Docker, Gondolin, or custom sandboxes for stricter boundaries. Memory is persistent and can be scoped by channel, user, thread, adapter, or agent. The framework supports secure secret handling via encrypted handoff, scheduling of cron jobs and heartbeat check-ins, file attachments, and the addition of custom TypeScript tools for integration with other applications or APIs.

All data generated by a heypi agent—including chat history, tool calls, approvals, jobs, and admin metadata—is stored locally on the user's own server, with files and secrets residing in the app workspace. heypi is free and open source, with its code available on GitHub and packages published on npm.
