The platform compiles and presents data from institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, Stanford University, Texas State University, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, Cornell University, Brown University, Princeton University, and Northwestern University. Its core function is to aggregate and analyze academic information, making it available through the website for users interested in exploring university course offerings.

The tool provides visualizations and tabular data related to degree plans, with a particular emphasis on the 141 degrees offered at UT Austin. DegreeView has processed and incorporated a large volume of data, including 1,220 Excel files and information on over 90,000 courses. The original version of the project focused exclusively on visualizing degree plans at UT Austin before expanding to other universities. The site also offers access to statistics and breakdowns about university programs and course catalogs.

DegreeView is accessible online and is architected to support analysis across multiple institutions. Users can also subscribe to a newsletter associated with the platform.
