GAIA

GAIA is an open-source personal AI assistant designed to automate daily digital tasks and workflows across a wide range of tools. It addresses the challenge of managing repetitive busywork by integrating with platforms such as Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, and Calendar, as well as more than 100 additional services. Users can connect their existing software stack once, enabling GAIA to take actions and automate processes without requiring constant manual intervention or context-switching between applications.

The assistant is capable of building and executing multi-step workflows based on user instructions. For example, users can describe in plain language what they want automated—such as morning briefings, receipt forwarding, or meeting preparation—and GAIA will construct the necessary steps, set triggers, and run the workflow on a schedule or in response to events like incoming emails or Slack messages. It also provides a unified workflow that can interact with multiple tools in a single sequence, such as pulling information from an inbox, drafting a document, scheduling a meeting, and notifying team members.

GAIA offers features that go beyond simple reminders or chatbots. It maintains a memory of user preferences, people, places, and tasks mentioned in conversation, organizing these details into browsable folders. The assistant keeps a dated journal of activities and commitments, following up before deadlines to help users stay on track. For task management, users can type a to-do in plain English, and GAIA will break it down into actionable steps, prioritize them, and execute the tasks automatically, closing them upon completion without requiring manual follow-up.

The platform is accessible from various environments, including web browsers, desktop applications (with a beta available for macOS), command-line interfaces, and messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Slack, and Telegram. A mobile app is in development. GAIA is fully open source and can be self-hosted, allowing users to audit the code and maintain control over their data. The service is free for personal use and does not require a credit card to get started.
