Free AI Coding Skills for Rails

Free AI Coding Skills for Rails is a set of rules and conventions for teaching an AI coding agent to write Rails code in the style senior developers use. It is described as opinionated and focused on battle-tested patterns rather than generic suggestions, with the aim of reducing extra custom code.

The set includes three skills. jr-rails-classic teaches Rails conventions associated with 37signals, including rich models, thin controllers, CRUD controllers with concerns, Minitest with fixtures, and no service objects. jr-rails-new guides an agent through setting up a new Rails app with an interactive interview before scaffolding, post-scaffold configuration, Phlex or ERB, Pundit, Solid Queue, and AASM. jr-rails-phlex helps an agent build UI components with a clear hierarchy, Stimulus and Turbo integration, custom elements and helpers, fragment caching patterns, and the Rails scaffold generator. The page also describes broader reference material on architecture and patterns, including a layered architecture guide, seven design patterns, nine refactoring recipes, and an anti-pattern catalog, plus domain guides for Hotwire integration, testing strategy and fixtures, security and authorization, background jobs and queues, state machines with AASM, and notifications with Noticed.

Installation is available in a terminal with no signup required using the skills CLI, through the Claude Code plugin marketplace, or manually by downloading the skills from GitHub and placing the folders in .claude/skills/ within a project directory. It works with Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and any agent that supports skills.
