Emerge Mail is a free, open-source WordPress plugin designed to improve the deliverability of emails sent from WordPress sites. It addresses common issues with WordPress email delivery by replacing the default wp_mail() function with authenticated delivery through a user's own mailbox or sender account, supporting providers such as Gmail, Microsoft 365, SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES, Brevo, or any SMTP server. The tool is intended for WordPress site owners and administrators who require reliable transactional email delivery, including password resets, comment notifications, WooCommerce receipts, contact-form submissions, and admin notices.

The plugin enables users to connect one or multiple mailboxes and mix providers for different types of emails, such as using SendGrid for transactional messages and Gmail for staff notifications, with the option for SMTP fallback. Emerge Mail supports various authentication methods including Gmail and Microsoft 365 OAuth, API keys for SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES, and Brevo, as well as standard SMTP credentials. Credentials are encrypted with a per-site key and stored in the site's database. The tool features multi-mailbox failover, automatically switching to another connection if one fails, and offers a throttle option to rotate sends across multiple accounts to manage provider quotas. Users can override the From address per connection, provided it is an authorized sender with the connected provider.

Emerge Mail includes built-in DMARC-aligned delivery to ensure that the From address matches the authenticated identity, aligning SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for improved inbox placement. Bounce and spam complaint tracking is integrated, with real-time capture from providers like SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES, Brevo, and Gmail. All events are logged in an Activity Log within WordPress, which provides details on each send, suppression, error, and bounce, and supports filtering, bulk deletion, and automatic pruning after ten days. The plugin also allows users to suppress specific core WordPress admin notifications, redirecting them to the Activity Log instead of the inbox.

The system is designed with safety in mind: if all configured providers fail, WordPress falls back to its default mail delivery, ensuring no emails are blocked.
