Editable Website

Editable Website is a technical preview for live, in-place website editing. It lets a logged-in user change content directly on the page instead of using an admin panel, and the page text says there is no admin panel. The project is described as built for developers, with a goal of letting other people update site content themselves.

Editing is done with keyboard shortcuts and direct manipulation. The page says users can enter edit mode with ⌘/Ctrl+E, click where they want to edit, move with arrow keys, apply bold, italics, and links with ⌘/Ctrl+B, I, and K, undo with ⌘/Ctrl+Z, and save changes with ⌘/Ctrl+S. It also describes a block-based editing model in which dashed gaps let users add blocks, create new top-level blocks, cycle through block types, switch layouts, drag blocks, cut and paste them, and select a parent block with Esc.

Media handling includes adding images and videos by pasting from the clipboard into placeholders. Multiple images can be pasted at once, images inserted in the text flow can be resized with edge handles, and short video clips can be pasted onto media placeholders. The supported video formats named on the page are .mp4, .webm, and .gif. The site also includes link editing for other pages, with a link preview and a link editor opened by clicking EDIT or pressing ⌘/Ctrl+K. It states that the technology behind the site uses Svelte and Svedit, and that Editable Website builds on SvelteKit and SQLite to enable full websites with multiple pages and a persistent backend where only an admin can make changes.
