BookZad

github.io·Productivity & Work

BookZad is a browser extension that functions as an on-device bookmark manager. It works with a user's existing native browser bookmarks and adds capabilities for scoring, searching, organizing, and cleaning them while keeping all processing local to the device.

The extension provides powerful search that locates bookmarks by title, URL, notes or tags. It supports folder navigation with breadcrumbs, creation and renaming of folders, and moving individual bookmarks or entire folders. Users can add the current page to a folder with one click. Every bookmark receives an automatic score derived from visits, recency and dwell time, which can be manually overridden, allowing sorting by relevance. Notes and tags can be added to any bookmark and become part of the searchable data.

A smart cleanup feature surfaces duplicates, stale bookmarks and dead links in a panel for one-click removal while preserving the preferred copy. A similarity nudge operates during browsing by comparing the current page to existing folders and quietly suggesting where to file it or revisit similar content. Specific sites can be muted, and search engines are muted by default. The extension builds directly on the browser's native bookmark system so that bookmarks remain accessible and usable in other contexts.

BookZad is delivered as a browser extension. It is available on GitHub under an open-source license. The tool addresses the need for more intelligent handling of accumulated bookmarks without relying on external servers.
