The application also supports custom backgrounds for notes, including animated GIFs, images, gradients, and solid colors, enabling visual organization and personalization. Code blocks are automatically detected and formatted with theme-aware styling, supporting languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, and HTML.

BetterStickies offers additional organizational tools like nested to-do lists with hierarchical indentation, collapsible notes to save screen space, and the ability to temporarily hide notes without deleting them. Notes can be freely positioned and resized across multiple monitors, and the interface provides hover previews for images and PDFs. The application includes search and restore functionality, allowing users to quickly find notes or recover deleted ones from a trash folder. Exporting notes to JSON is supported, ensuring data portability and no vendor lock-in. Right-to-left language support is built in for languages such as Arabic and Hebrew, with automatic detection.

The software is portable and requires no installation or administrative rights, enabling users to download and run it instantly. BetterStickies is free to use with a fully functional base version that supports up to five notes, one reminder, and one GIF background. A premium version, available for a one-time payment, removes these limits and provides additional perks such as access to a private Discord channel, increased voting power on the feature roadmap, and early access to new features. There are no subscriptions or recurring fees associated with the premium upgrade.
