Thriftly

Thriftly is a free, open source web application designed to help users locate and rank nearby Goodwill thrift stores based on the affluence of their surrounding neighborhoods. S. Census Bureau and OpenStreetMap.

The tool generates a "Goods Score" for each store, ranging from 0 to 100, which estimates the likelihood of finding desirable donations. This score is calculated using four weighted factors: median home value (40%), median income (35%), the percentage of college-educated residents (15%), and median rent (10%) within approximately a three-mile radius of each store. The scoring system is intended to reflect the general tendency for thrift stores in wealthier neighborhoods to receive better items.

Users can search for Goodwill locations by entering a ZIP code or browsing by city, and view all nearby stores on a live, interactive map. Each store is represented by a color-graded pin, and users can adjust the search radius from half a mile up to 100 miles. Additional filters allow for setting a minimum Goods Score or displaying only stores that are currently open. The application also provides one-tap access to directions via Google Maps, as well as store hours, phone numbers, and website links.

Thriftly does not track live inventory but instead estimates donation quality based on demographic data. The service is accessible without sign-up and is available nationwide across all 50 states. S. Census Bureau (ACS) and OpenStreetMap.
