UPGRAIT HeatControl

UPGRAIT HeatControl is a locally operated smart home system developed and manufactured in Germany that manages and coordinates multiple heating and cooling sources within a household. The platform is designed for homeowners who use or are interested in various energy systems such as gas, oil, pellet heating, solar thermal, photovoltaic installations, district heating, and heat pumps. Its primary function is to unify all available heat sources in a single intelligent controller, automatically selecting the most cost-effective source at any given moment based on dynamic factors like electricity tariffs, photovoltaic surplus, gas prices, and pellet costs.

The system enables both heating and cooling by supporting automatic switching between modes with compatible heat pumps, allowing for weather-guided operation—cooling rooms in summer and heating in winter without manual intervention. UPGRAIT HeatControl can integrate more than seven different energy sources and is currently active in over 20 installations. It features a 9 kW integrated heating element and offers a 48-hour weather forecast horizon to further optimize energy use. The platform is compatible with Home Assistant via a native integration and provides an open local API, ensuring operation without mandatory cloud connectivity. All data and communications are end-to-end encrypted, and there is no requirement for user registration, supporting privacy and local control.

For maintenance and troubleshooting, the system allows secure remote access for installers, reducing the need for on-site visits. UPGRAIT HeatControl is delivered as a progressive web app, ensuring accessibility across devices, and is produced, supported, and developed entirely in Ahaus, North Rhine-Westphalia. The system is positioned as a solution for gradual energy transition, allowing users to retain existing heating infrastructure while integrating new energy sources over time.
