Topic Today, also known as ToTo, is a free language learning app centered on daily reading practice through short stories. Designed to help learners build vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency, the app delivers one new story each day tailored to the user's selected CEFR level, from beginner (A1) to advanced proficiency (C2). Each story is crafted so that learners understand approximately 95% of the words, a threshold supported by research as optimal for vocabulary acquisition through extensive reading.

The platform currently supports Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Romanian, Swedish, and English, with the option to learn one or multiple languages and to switch between them at any time. Stories are concise, taking about three to five minutes to read, and include highlighted new vocabulary in context. Users can toggle full translations in their language and track their daily reading streak, supporting the development of a sustainable reading habit. The approach is grounded in extensive reading research, with multiple cited meta-analyses demonstrating that regular exposure to level-appropriate texts improves vocabulary, comprehension, and overall language proficiency.

Topic Today is available as a free download on Android via Google Play. An iPhone version is in development, with a waitlist available for notifications upon release. The app is designed for individuals seeking a structured, research-backed method to improve their language skills through consistent, daily reading rather than drill-based exercises. There are no charges or in-app purchases for the Android version, making it accessible to a broad audience interested in language learning through extensive reading.
