Terax is a terminal-focused development workspace designed for developers seeking an integrated environment that combines a terminal, code editor, AI agents, and live web preview in a single application. The platform emphasizes a lightweight footprint, with an app size under 10 MB and rapid startup times around 300 milliseconds. 0 license, with no telemetry and no account required to use the software.

Source control is integrated, supporting Git operations such as hunk-level staging, commit history visualization through a commit graph, and direct push commands with upstream awareness—all accessible without leaving the workspace.

AI integration is central to Terax, with agents capable of browsing files, running commands, and proposing code changes. All AI-generated edits are reviewable as diffs before being applied to disk. The tool supports both bring-your-own-key (BYOK) and fully local AI models via LM Studio, ensuring that code can remain on the user's machine. Additional workflow enhancements include per-project memory and configuration files, reusable snippets and skills callable by agents, and the ability to interact with agents using voice input through Whisper or other providers.

Web development is supported through an automatic web preview feature that detects development servers such as Vite, Next, and Astro, opening them as tabs within the workspace and providing live previews alongside the editor. Task and plan tracking is built in, allowing agents to continue work where the user left off. Customization options include ten editor themes, ten app palettes, the ability to build and export custom themes, and support for background images with adjustable opacity and blur.
