The platform offers a streamlined workflow in three steps: users can drop in one or multiple sources, Smidge detects and adapts to each source type, and then splits large inputs into focused, topic-specific skills. Users can download individual skills or a full catalogue and install them to any supported platform with a single CLI command. Smidge also features source-aware extraction, automatic topic detection, and catalogue generation, allowing users to select distinct topics from large materials and generate a set of skills, each scoped to a particular domain. Every generated skill is validated against the open Agent Skills specification, checking for frontmatter, structure, trigger descriptions, and word count before download.

Smidge can be accessed via a web app, a command-line interface (CLI) that can be installed with npm, and a REST API for programmatic generation of skills. The REST API uses the same pipeline as the web app, offering transcription, generation, and overflow handling.
