Шрифторіз

Шрифторіз is an application designed to detect Russian fonts and suggest suitable Ukrainian alternatives. It addresses the issue of Russian typographic influence in digital spaces by identifying fonts with Russian origins or connections and encouraging the use of Ukrainian typefaces. The tool is positioned as the world's first font 'antivirus', with a substantial database comprising 325 Ukrainian fonts and 1,298 Russian or Russia-associated fonts.

This tool operates directly in the browser and is currently available as a free extension in the Chrome Store for Chromium-based desktop browsers, including Google Chrome and others. After installation, Шрифторіз can be used autonomously in the background or manually activated on the active browser tab. It integrates with Canva, where it expands the font list and marks both Russian and Ukrainian fonts to guide users in their selection. The tool uses a color-coded system for its browser icon: white indicates no relevant fonts found or an ongoing search, green signals the presence of a Ukrainian font, and red alerts to the detection of a Russian font. Users are encouraged to pin the extension to their browser panel for immediate visual feedback about the fonts present on a website.

Шрифторіз is intended for individuals and organizations interested in supporting Ukrainian graphic culture and visual identity, particularly those who wish to avoid inadvertently using Russian fonts in their digital content. It also aims to support Ukrainian font designers by promoting their work as recommended alternatives.

The application is offered free of charge and is currently in public beta. It is a collaborative project between the platforms Україна в кольорі and Rentafont, and was designed and built by ГО "Україна в Кольорі". The tool is described as an instrument for collective typographic hygiene, enabling users to make informed choices about the fonts they use and to contribute to the strengthening of Ukrainian visual culture.
