Qelvora

Qelvora is a native macOS application designed for local spell checking, text correction, rewriting, and translation. It operates entirely on the user's device, utilizing local Ollama models to process selected text without sending data externally. This focus on privacy and speed makes it suitable for users who want to polish text, such as drafts or messages, directly on their Mac while keeping their information private.

The tool features a menu bar interface and supports macOS 14 or later. Qelvora allows users to correct, rewrite, or translate any selected text across various Mac applications. It also offers a unique screen-area selection capability: by pressing a global shortcut, users can draw a rectangle over any on-screen content—such as Discord messages, code comments, or drafts—to run OCR (optical character recognition) and process the text inside. This is particularly useful for applications like Discord, where the built-in text handling may not offer sufficient correction or translation features.

Qelvora emphasizes a local-first workflow, ensuring that all corrections, rewrites, and translations are performed on the device using local models. The application is distributed as a notarized, signed DMG file and supports Sparkle updates. Its source code is available under the MIT license, indicating an open-source approach.
