Application Signal is a directory and analysis tool for public Y Combinator companies from 2020 onward. It addresses the need for founders to understand patterns across recent YC batches and assess how their own startup ideas align with them.

The service presents companies on an interactive signal map where proximity between dots indicates similarity of business model profiles. Horizontal and vertical positions are learned normalized coordinates rather than direct business metrics. Users can filter the map by batch year, YC industry sector, target market, operating area, and AI linkage. Hovering over dots provides previews while clicking reveals details. A readout section shows statistics such as AI density as the share of visible companies whose descriptions mention AI, agents, LLMs, or machine learning, along with the leading inferred customer market in the current view.

To generate insight, users describe a company or theme. The tool then produces a private, evidence-led fit report based on public YC directory records for industry, batch, location, and descriptions. Target market and AI linkage rely on transparent rule-based inferences. All scores function as comparisons rather than verdicts. The map supports exploration of patterns across batches, industries, and markets.
