For LinkedIn, social supports posting content, commenting, reacting to posts, listing posts and comments, fetching profiles, managing connections, sending and accepting connection requests, sending messages, marking conversations as read or unread, mirroring data locally, and running SQL queries on mirrored data. It also allows users to fetch company profiles and list job postings. On X, users can create posts, repost or undo reposts, like or unlike posts, fetch and list tweets, bookmark or unbookmark posts, fetch profiles, manage followers and following lists, follow or unfollow users, mirror data, query local data with SQL, and send direct messages, including group DMs.

Every command in social outputs JSON, making it compatible with tools such as jq and fzf, and suitable for piping into agent planners or other scripts. Commands are designed to be composable, supporting deterministic exit codes and structured errors. The tool also features caching mechanisms: repeated allowlisted GET reads can return cached results, reducing usage costs, while a local mirror enables free SQL queries on previously synced data. Users can control cache freshness and pagination with command flags.

Social is intended for users who want to automate and streamline their social media operations from the command line, such as developers or those integrating with AI agents. It offers both a terminal installer and an install prompt compatible with agents like Claude or Codex, eliminating the need for direct terminal access. The tool supports connecting, re-authenticating, and disconnecting accounts for both LinkedIn and X, as well as inspecting billing and managing multiple accounts.
