FreeCloud

freecloud.wiki·File storage & sync

FreeCloud converts disk space on an existing web host into a personal cloud drive. It addresses the problem of paying multiple times for similar storage by allowing users to reuse space already covered by web hosting fees instead of purchasing separate cloud storage subscriptions.

The solution consists of a set of components that share one server folder on the host filesystem. Files are stored directly without requiring a database. A desktop sync client maintains a local folder that stays synchronized with the hosted drive and is available for Linux, macOS, and Windows. An Android app supports browsing, uploading, and syncing files from a phone using the same hosted location. A browser-based file manager provides web access to manage files from any device without installing the desktop client. All three interfaces connect to the identical server folder on the host.

FreeCloud is delivered by uploading a small set of server files to the web host. The desktop and Android clients, along with the web interface, then interact with that folder. No additional monthly storage plan is needed beyond the existing hosting payment. The project is available on GitHub.

It functions as a lightweight, self-hosted cloud drive built specifically for web hosting accounts.
