LicenseAnalyzer

LicenseAnalyzer is a software management solution designed to help organizations align their engineering software resources with business needs and reduce unnecessary expenses. The tool focuses on metering, analyzing, and optimizing software usage across more than 6,000 applications, regardless of whether they are license manager-enabled, standalone, or SaaS-based. It is intended for a variety of roles within an organization, including C-suite executives, IT managers, procurement managers, and application managers.

LicenseAnalyzer offers three levels of functionality. The first level, Runtime Usage, provides real-time and historical license reporting, application metering per project, and supports over 90 license managers. It also includes web application metering, allowing organizations to measure usage of websites and cloud-based applications. The second level, True Active Usage, enables metering of both standalone and server-based applications, whether deployed on-premise or in the cloud, to determine actual active use. This level features active versus inactive application usage tracking, application resource usage policies, and visualizations such as active heatmap reports. Activity is measured based on CPU, I/O, keyboard, and mouse input, and tracking standalone applications is achieved through client installations on each machine.

At the third level, Managed Usage, LicenseAnalyzer automates license optimization with features such as automated license harvesting, proactive popup alerts before suspending inactive licenses, and the ability to suspend, hibernate, or release licenses based on custom policies. It allows organizations to prioritize users or user groups, optimize scheduling across different time zones, and set restrictions based on license utilization percentages. The tool also supports simulation of different licensing models, including named-user, local versus global concurrent user, token, and pay-per-use models, without requiring changes to the existing infrastructure.

By providing analytics to inform vendor negotiations and enabling organizations to stop paying for unused or underutilized applications, LicenseAnalyzer aims to turn software visibility into measurable business value.
