Onylogy Image Alt Text is a WordPress plugin designed to automatically populate the Alternative Text field for images using an AI vision model that analyzes each picture. By writing directly into WordPress’s native alt text field, the plugin ensures that generated descriptions are compatible with various WordPress features, including SEO plugins, screen readers, and themes. The alt text remains associated with the image even if the plugin is later removed, supporting long-term accessibility and search optimization.

The plugin offers several modes for generating alt text. Users can choose bulk generation for large sets of images—processing 10, 100, or over 500 files at a time—with a live progress bar to track the operation. There is a review mode that allows users to preview, approve, or edit each suggested alt text before saving, as well as an auto mode for fully automated processing. Onylogy Image Alt Text also includes overwrite protection, enabling users to either fill only images that lack alt text or force regeneration for all images regardless of existing descriptions. Additionally, it supports automatic alt text generation for newly uploaded images.

Beyond basic alt text, the plugin can also generate optional fields such as Caption, Description, and Title. Users are required to provide their own API key, which can be from free or paid sources, and the plugin supports multiple AI vision providers, including Google Gemini.
