Online Indicator

Online Indicator is a macOS menu bar application designed to enhance the visibility and control of network status by replacing the default Wi-Fi icon with customizable status indicators. Built for macOS 14 and above, the tool aims to provide a more informative and personalized network experience directly from the menu bar.

The application allows users to select from 17 pre-made icon sets or use any SF Symbol, with options to set custom colors and labels for each network state. Users can save their configurations as custom icon sets, enabling quick switching between different visual setups. Online Indicator also offers flexible interaction: left and right mouse clicks can be assigned distinct actions, and these assignments can be swapped or disabled according to user preference. The tool provides direct access to Wi-Fi controls and network settings from the menu, allowing users to manage their connection efficiently.

Additional features include live updates of the current IP address, which can be copied to the clipboard for easy sharing, with the option to hide the IP display for a cleaner menu bar. Users can control how frequently the application checks network connectivity, choosing from default intervals or setting a custom one. By default, it pings Apple’s captive portal server to determine connectivity status, but this can be changed to any user-specified URL, such as a personal server or company endpoint. Custom keyboard shortcuts can be set to toggle Wi-Fi, open Wi-Fi settings, and access network settings, streamlining network management tasks.

Online Indicator is open-source software written in Swift, available under the MIT License. All operations are performed entirely on-device, with no collection, storage, or transmission of personal data, and the application does not include analytics, tracking, or external data services. This privacy-focused approach ensures that user information remains completely private during use.
