Nock

numericnetworks.com·Design & Creative

Nock is a macOS menu-bar application designed to enhance the sensory feedback of system interactions by adding both sound and haptic responses to user actions. The tool provides distinct audio and tactile cues for a range of activities, including scrolling, typing, clicking, dragging, and swiping, aiming to make the Mac experience more tactile and engaging.

The application offers several customizable features. For scrolling, Nock includes ten different click sound profiles, with velocity-aware adjustments that simulate a freewheel effect for faster scrolls. Both vertical and horizontal scrolling are supported. Typing feedback comes with two mechanical sound profiles, and every key—including modifier keys and the function row—produces its own sound. Mouse interactions are differentiated with eight sound themes, and separate audio cues are provided for single, double, and right-click actions. Dragging operations are accompanied by a continuous ambient sound while moving an item, culminating in a soft landing sound upon release. Gestures such as three-finger swipes are also supported with their own audio and synthesized haptic feedback, though haptic effects are only available within the app and not in browser-based demos.

Nock is compatible with macOS 14 and later, supporting both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. The application sits quietly in the menu bar, providing instant and private feedback. A live demo is available in the browser, allowing users to experience the sound profiles, though haptic feedback is exclusive to the macOS app. The application is notarized by Apple, indicating a level of security and compliance with macOS standards.
