StrokeMouse

strokemouse.com·Productivity & Work

StrokeMouse is a macOS application that allows users to trigger actions by drawing mouse trajectories while holding a trigger key. It matches the drawn path to execute keyboard shortcuts, window operations, media controls, application launches, shell commands, or AppleScript. The tool addresses the need for efficient, gesture-based control of macOS without relying on menus or complex keyboard combinations.

It provides normalized trajectory matching with limited rotation and turning structure gating to avoid false matches from similar gestures. A menu bar icon remains resident for enabling or disabling gestures, opening settings, and changing color to indicate pause or missing permissions. Trigger keys default to the right mouse button but can use the middle or side buttons, with the application listening only to enabled keys. General settings cover matching thresholds, appearance, and engine options.

Gestures operate under per-app scopes, allowing global or application-specific behavior with gestures organized by scope in a sidebar. Actions include keyboard shortcuts, window management, media playback, shell commands, and AppleScript, managed through JSON for import and export. Default gestures come preloaded for common tasks such as triggering Mission Control, switching application windows, minimizing or closing windows, opening Safari, playing or pausing media, and opening GitHub, though all can be customized. The interface displays a gesture library, testing area, settings, and permission controls.

StrokeMouse runs entirely locally with no telemetry. It supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs on macOS 14 or later. The application is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. Installation involves downloading the appropriate chip version, granting accessibility permissions in system settings, and drawing an initial gesture.
