Sunder App

Sunder is an open-source desktop application designed for Windows, macOS, and Linux that serves as a unified platform for installing and building native desktop tools. It addresses the challenge of managing numerous small utilities, dashboards, automations, and AI-powered agents that are often too specialized to justify developing as standalone desktop apps or hosting as web tools. By consolidating these tools into a single environment, Sunder streamlines installation, management, and usage, offering a consistent shell, settings, and lifecycle for all installed packages.

The core of Sunder’s functionality revolves around its package system. Packages are installable tools specifically built for Sunder, and they can take the form of dashboards, file utilities, automations, command panels, API integrations, AI agents, hardware controls, and local workflows. Users can browse and install packages from a Registry or create their own using the integrated Agent Builder or SDK. Example packages include folder organizers, server dashboards, image batch tools, smart home panels, hardware monitors, business dashboards, command buttons, and AI workspaces. Sunder supports building tools that interact with local files and folders, execute commands and scripts, interface with APIs and services, and connect to operating system features or hardware devices, provided the package implements these capabilities and the user grants permission.

A notable feature is the Agent Builder, which enables users to create new packages directly within the app, including through chat-based interactions with Sunder Agent. This allows for rapid development of dashboards, file tools, command buttons, API panels, automations, and other utilities without requiring a separate desktop development environment. Sunder Agent, the first major package family, facilitates building and iterating on packages by handling tasks like editing files, running commands, and testing builds. The platform supports community distribution, enabling users to publish packages for discovery, installation, updating, enabling, disabling, or uninstallation by others through Sunder.

Sunder is open source and can be downloaded for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Packages are managed entirely within the Sunder app, which does not act as a window manager or a launcher for arbitrary external applications; instead, tools must be built as Sunder packages to leverage its unified environment and lifecycle.
