The CalcFi Developer API is a forthcoming RESTful service designed to provide developers with access to hundreds of financial calculators through a single API. It aims to streamline the integration of financial calculations into applications, eliminating the need for developers to implement complex mathematical logic themselves. The API is intended for use cases such as fintech apps, robo-advisors, real estate platforms, mobile applications, publisher tools, and AI assistants that require accurate and structured financial computations.
The platform offers endpoints for a wide range of calculations, including mortgage payments and amortization schedules, compound interest growth, and retirement savings projections. , principal, interest rate, term, contributions, and more) and options for granular outputs like amortization schedules or yearly breakdowns. The API also allows users to list all available calculators, filter them by category, and retrieve their required parameters and endpoints. Supported calculator categories include mortgage, retirement, investing, debt, tax, and business.
Authentication is managed via Bearer tokens, with API keys issued per application and accessible through a user dashboard. All requests require HTTPS and a valid Bearer token in the Authorization header. The API is designed for low latency, with response times under 50 milliseconds, making it suitable for real-time user interfaces. Error handling covers a range of scenarios, such as invalid parameters, unauthorized access, rate limiting, and server errors, with clear status codes and structured error details.
The CalcFi Developer API will offer both free and paid usage tiers, with default rate limits of 100 requests per minute for the free tier and 1,000 per minute for paid plans. The service is currently in a pre-release phase, with access available by joining a waitlist. As an API-tooling solution, it is positioned to support developers building financial features across a variety of platforms and industries.
In the API design, testing & docs space, Developers takes a focused approach. Enabling developers to embed accurate financial calculators into their products without building from scratch. It is built as an open-source project for developers building financial or fintech applications. Developers is open source under the Open Source license. Developers is available on the command line and API.
Behind Developers is Jere Salmisto, and the product first shipped in 2026. Key capabilities include REST API, financial calculators, and openAPI spec. It exposes integrations via a public API. Access is currently waitlist-only.
