Godwit Sync

Godwit Sync is a command-line tool designed for migrating, synchronizing, and backing up S3-compatible object storage. It addresses the need for controlled, verifiable data movement between S3 stores or from a local server to S3-compatible destinations. The tool emphasizes reliability by providing proof that every run has completed, leveraging checksum verification and a crash-safe resume feature to ensure data integrity and continuity.

Key features include a plan-first approach, allowing users to generate, inspect, and modify migration plans before executing any data transfers. Godwit Sync supports incremental synchronization, transferring only changed data between sources and destinations. It also maintains version history by migrating all object versions and offers the ability to keep every version as a plain S3 object. Additional capabilities include rate-limited transfers to control read and write throughput and resumable operations that continue from the exact checkpoint in case of interruption.

The tool works with a range of S3-compatible storage solutions, including AWS S3, MinIO, RustFS, and Ceph. It can also facilitate the migration of MinIO users, policies, and access keys to RustFS, either in-place or via export/import to a new host, though some configuration elements like LDAP, OIDC, lifecycle rules, and bucket notifications are not transferred.
