Gerrymandle

gerrymandle.com·Games

Gerrymandle is a daily web-based puzzle that simulates the drawing of electoral district lines to favor one party. Players take the role of a mapmaker who must group tiles on a grid into districts to secure more seats for their chosen party than any opponent. A new puzzle appears each day.

The game presents a map with colored houses representing voters from different parties and some empty land tiles. Players click adjacent tiles to form districts, which must be one connected shape without islands. All districts are the same size and every house must be assigned to a district. A party wins a district by holding more houses in it than any other party; a tie means nobody wins that district. The objective is to draw the lines so the chosen party wins more districts overall and thereby wins the election. Two classic techniques are described: packing concentrates an opponent's voters into a few districts they win overwhelmingly, while cracking spreads their remaining voters thinly across districts so they fall just short of winning them. A tutorial explains the rules, a hint button is available when stuck, and a submit button records the solution once the player believes the best distribution has been found.

The puzzle requires JavaScript to run and is accessed through a browser. It is offered free of charge with no pricing tiers or licensing details stated.
