Flanner

Flanner addresses the challenge of managing and versioning planning documents generated by AI agents, particularly those that accumulate as markdown files across local repositories and issue trackers. It functions as both a command-line interface (CLI) tool and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, offering a centralized control point for these files. The tool is designed for AI-assisted development workflows, specifically supporting integration with Claude Code, Codex, and any MCP client, allowing developers to keep track of every revision and associate each plan with its relevant issue.

Among its features, Flanner provides agent integration through guard hooks and configuration files such as CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md, ensuring that AI-generated plans are consistently routed and saved without manual intervention. It also manages .gitignore settings to prevent plan files from being accidentally committed to version control systems like Git. Each planning document handled by Flanner includes YAML frontmatter, which stores metadata such as project details, version numbers, and ownership information, supporting robust tracking and organization.

The tool is distributed as a free, open-source package and can be installed via PyPI. Flanner operates entirely locally, requiring no account to use, and is licensed under the MIT license.
