Rat Commander

Rat Commander is a terminal-based file manager designed with a two-panel interface reminiscent of classic tools like Norton Commander. Built in Rust with Ratatui, it is self-contained and does not require external tools to provide its functionality. The platform is suitable for users who prefer managing files directly from the terminal, offering a comprehensive set of built-in features for file management and system exploration.

The tool includes a classic two-panel navigation system, supporting both Windows drive letters and Unix-style paths, and offers theming with true-color support. It provides a file transfer speed graph and other modern enhancements. Rat Commander features an integrated text editor and viewer with syntax highlighting for most modern file types, block operations, and search-and-replace capabilities. Users can switch between a regular editor and a hex editor, allowing in-place editing of large files.

For advanced file management, Rat Commander offers directory comparison, duplicate detection, and file merge tools to quickly identify changes or duplicates across directories and visually merge file differences. The multi-rename tool supports batch renaming with a live two-column preview, including counters, case transforms, and search-and-replace options. System resource monitoring is available through a process explorer, which displays per-core CPU utilization, battery information, and allows for terminating processes. The disk explorer provides a visual representation of directories and their sizes, helping users locate large files, while the disk manager offers additional disk management capabilities.
