Diktafon

Diktafon records voice memos that it organizes on virtual cassette tapes, one per topic, with on-device transcription and summarization. It is an Android application distributed through the F-Droid repository of free and open source software. The design centers on the idea that capturing a thought and locating it later should require minimal effort.

Memos are grouped by subject such as shopping, kitchen renovation or book ideas. Each cassette plays its recordings as one continuous sequence in chronological order. The interface provides familiar tape-recorder controls: open a cassette, press record and speak without needing to name files or fill in forms. A rewind function returns to earlier content. Every memo receives an automatic transcription while each cassette is summarized and given a title. Tapping any word in a transcript moves playback to that exact point.

All processing occurs locally on the device. The application requires no accounts, cloud services, advertisements or analytics, so recorded voice never leaves the phone. Network access is limited to an initial download of the on-device models, which is recommended over Wi-Fi and totals roughly two gigabytes for the default set, up to three gigabytes for the largest models or two hundred megabytes if summarization is omitted. Ten languages are supported: English, Czech, French, German, Korean, Polish and Portuguese among them. A recent packaging update in version 1.0.8 changed only how Android APKs are built for different ABIs and introduced no functional alterations.

Diktafon is delivered exclusively as a free Android app. It carries no pricing tiers because it is licensed as free and open source software available from F-Droid.
