Youtarr

Youtarr is a self-hosted YouTube DVR. It automatically downloads channels and playlists from YouTube and syncs the content to Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby while providing management through a modern web interface.

The tool addresses the need to maintain a personal offline library of YouTube videos, shorts, and streams on local media servers. Channel subscriptions allow users to automatically download new videos, shorts, and streams with separate controls for each category. Native playlist sync turns subscribed YouTube playlists into real playlists inside Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby while also generating a universal .m3u file compatible with other players.

Watch status sync pulls the watched state for every user from the media servers and displays it across the library, supporting filters for watched or unwatched content in a one-way direction that never writes back to the servers. Scheduled downloads operate on cron-based schedules with smart duplicate prevention and a maintained download history. Curated libraries support grouping channels into subfolders, mapping them to distinct media server libraries, and adding content ratings for family-safe browsing.

Full download control includes SponsorBlock integration along with quality settings ranging from 360p to 4K and MP3 audio extraction. Youtarr runs as a self-hosted application with its primary interface delivered through the web. It is presented as a YouTube DVR that keeps a personal YouTube library on a media server.
