Axismundi Table of Contents

Axismundi Table of Contents is a WordPress plugin that supplies the axismundi/toc block. The block produces a dynamic server-rendered list of headings from the current post and includes scroll-spy behavior that highlights the section currently being read.

It solves the problem of mismatched heading identifiers that can occur when a table of contents block and post content render at different times or in different locations. A shared deterministic slug function between the block renderer and a render_block_core/post-content filter guarantees that table-of-contents anchors always match the heading ids regardless of render order or placement. Author-provided HTML anchors are respected and duplicate headings receive numeric suffixes such as -2 or -3 to keep identifiers unique.

The plugin offers two placement options. One is a sidebar rail layout. The other is a collapsible disclosure element placed above the content that uses the native details element and whose summary can reflect the current section. A ready-to-use pattern named Table of contents (above content) is included for immediate insertion of the disclosure variant before the post body.

The block is delivered as a free WordPress plugin hosted in the official plugin directory. It is developed by Jiwoon Kim and targets authors of documentation, long-form articles, and any content that requires in-page navigation.
