Ampere

Ampere is a battery management utility designed specifically for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. It resides in the menu bar, providing users with continuous oversight of their MacBook’s battery status and health. The tool aims to slow battery aging by keeping the battery within user-defined healthy charge ranges, helping to extend the device's lifespan.

Ampere offers live power telemetry, displaying real-time data such as adapter, battery, and system wattage, as well as voltages, currents, temperature, cycle count, health, and battery age. Users can set custom charge bounds, for example between 40% and 60%, so the battery charges to the lower limit, maintains charge in the middle, and stops at the upper limit automatically. The software also prevents fragmented top-ups through micro-charge prevention, ensuring that charging only occurs when necessary and that each cycle runs from the lower to the upper bound, even across system restarts.

The application allows users to manually trigger charging up to the upper bound or discharge down to it, even while the charger remains connected. If the app is closed or force-quit, a watchdog feature restores the Mac’s default charging behavior within seconds. Ampere resumes any in-progress charges or bounds after relaunch, and includes verified in-app updates to keep the software current.

Ampere is available as a free trial and requires a one-time license purchase, with no subscription fees. Installation can be performed via direct download or using Homebrew. It is intended for users who want detailed battery insights and greater control over charging processes on Apple Silicon MacBooks.
